Naxos Music Library

Grants access to over 130.000 recordings (8.800 CDs) of Naxos company and other record companies, as well. The user can search the database through keywords such as the name of a composer, the title etc and can choose to listen any track of the CD that he wants. The database is being renewed every month with new releases and it also covers other music genres, besides classical music, such as jazz and ethnic.

New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians

The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians II (London: Macmillan, 2001) is available in both the printed and the online edition. The latter is accessible only from the Library’s Reading Room.

Index to Music Periodicals Full Text (IIMP Full Text)

The Music Library has initiated a subscription to International Index to Music Periodicals Full Text (IIMP Full Text). This is an on-line database (, which contains the titles of articles from 400 music periodicals. The user has access to full-text articles out of 80 periodicals. In total, the database contains 400.000 entries from 1874 till today. The IIMP Full Text covers a wide range of musical subjects such as music practice and theory, music education, ethnomusicology, composition, music theatre and folk music. Furthermore, the full-text articles cover such diverse musical styles and periods as medieval music, alternative rock and electronic music.


The NISC, by using MUSE (MUsic SEarch) software, constitutes the largest collection of bibliographical entries in the area of music, in the world. The entries derive from two sources: RILM (Repertoire International de Litterature Musicale, 1962-) and the catalog of the Library of Congress.   


The Music Library has a large number of multimedia applications. One of them, the Greek Folk Music Instruments is an original production of the Library which offers you the opportunity to listen to Greek musical instruments, see construction details and the techniques of playing them. If you click on the underlined titles, you can see the cover page and a brief description. The use of the multimedia is possible only on the Library premises. Here, you can find a catalog with foreign titles in music and literature & fine arts.
